The Hugo Kauder Society is pleased to announce The Fourth Annual Hugo Kauder Society International Music Competition For Piano September 5-6, 2008, New Haven, Connecticut First Prize: $4,000 and NYC performance opportunity Second Prize: $2,000 Third Prize: $1,000 The three winners will be featured in the Winner's Concert. All finalists will receive a recording of their performance. Open to pianists worldwide, ages 35 and under, as of September 6, 2008. Recorded Round | Deadline April 1, 2008 Contestants will submit 5 copies of a recording on CD or DVD of selected movements from the standard repertoire, including a major keyboard work representing each of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Contestants invited to the Live Final Round will be notified by May 19, 2008. Live Final Round | September 5, 2008 Neighborhood Music School, New Haven, Connecticut Contestants invited to the Live Round should be prepared to play selections from their recorded submissions and from three Hugo Kauder Solo Works of their choice, available to preview on this site and to buy from Subito Music, including: · Sonata 1, 2, 3, or 4 · Toccata in E (1952 Revision) · Any Prelude and Fugue (from list of seven at subitomusic.com) Competition judges will be Claude Frank, Yale School of Music and Curtis Institute of Music; Pamela Frank, Peabody Insitute of the Johns Hopkins University and Stony Brook; and Peter Frankl, Yale School of Music. Invited pianists will be offered a partial subsidy of their travel expenses under the Regina Kass Memorial Travel Fund. Invited musicians residing outside the United States must secure the necessary permission to enter the United States. The Society cannot offer assistance with immigration beyond providing written confirmation of the finalist’s invitation to the Final Round. By applying to participate in the Competition, applicants accept and agree to abide by the following Rules: 1. Selection of applicants to participate in the Final Round of the Competition is at the discretion of the Hugo Kauder Society Inc. (“the Society"”). 2. A pianist selected to participate in the Final Round shall be prepared to perform before a panel of judges the entire selected compositions by Hugo Kauder and three works from the standard piano repertoire representing the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. 3. All decisions of the judges are final. The judges’ discretion includes the right to not award prizes. 4. The Society reserves the rights to digitally record the final rounds and the Winners Concert. The rights to record, reproduce, transmit and distribute applicants’ performances connected to the competition remain the property of the Society. 5. Competitors are not allowed to photocopy copyrighted music they do not own, and can be disqualified if found using music copied in violation of copyright. 6. The Society reserves the right to cancel the Competition without prejudice.
